Filming Day One

Filming Day One: Saturday 4th February:

Today, my group and I met up at 11:30 at Amy's house to film the start of our thriller opening. We planned to film all of the outside parts and the mum walking into the house and finding the note from the children. We managed to get this done within 2 hours which we were happy about as we could film again another time any improvements and things we wanted to add.

Alicia filmed the part of the scene where Amy got out of her car and started to walk into the house. Demi and I made sure that the background noise and the lighting was good enough to film to get the best quality. We decided to use Alicia's own camera as it produced better quality than the school's camera. Overall, we are happy with the footage that we got as the lighting and the non diegetic sounds worked very well together and made it look very continuous from scene to scene. We filmed this part of the scene twice as we wanted to make sure that we got the sound of the door emphasised and that the road was quiet to show make the audience feel calm that nothing is wrong at this point.

We filmed each shot 3 times so when it comes to editing we will be able to pick the one that looks best with the background noise and the shot change. Demi directed the scene and I made sure that we followed the storyboard with the speech and that the direction of the characters was close to what we planned.

Alicia then filmed the shot of the mum walking down the path to her house. At the end of each scene that we shot we looked back at what we had to make sure that the scene flowed and when it came to editing it looked as best as possible. Overall, we are happy with this shot as because it is over her shoulder it makes the audience suspicious that someone may be following her and watching what she is doing. Also, we felt that this shot was effective as it shows the normality of what she is doing.

Alicia again filmed the part where Amy walks into the living rom and shouts up the stairs to see if the children are in. We changed this to an over the shoulder shot of her looking up the stairs to make the audience concerned about what is happening. However, when we looked back on the footage that we got in class we realised that to improve the shot that we got we could change it from and over the shoulder to a point of view shot of her looking up the stairs and also a shot looking down from the top of the stairs to emphasis to the audience that something may be wrong.

We then had an idea while filming and decided that it would be effective if when Amy looked in the fridge that we filmed from inside the fridge of when she gets a drink. Overall, we are very happy with how this turned out as it looks very effective and reinforces the normality of what she is doing.

We then filmed her finding the note on the table while drinking. This scene followed on to us filming her finding the note and getting something to eat. We decided to do a close up of the note and then a mid shot of her looking at the note and sighing. However, when we looked back at the footage we realised that the note was on a different piece of paper so next time we will have to make sure that we film it with the right piece of paper to make sure it is continuous from the previous scenes. We also will film the reaction again as we think that it would look effective if she slid the piece of paper along the table as she gets annoyed.

I then filmed the parts where Amy walked into the living room. We wanted to get a wide mid shot angle of Amy walking into the room to make sure that it looked as life like as possible and again reinforced that what she was doing was normal. I had to re film this shot quite a few times as when we looked back at the footage the lighting wasn't continuing on from the scenes from the kitchen so we decided to turn the light on. We were unable to film the whole of this scene as Amy had to leave meaning that when we looked back at the footage that we got we realised that a few of the details for example her turning on the Tv wasn't as well done as we wanted. So when we film again we will want to film her turning on the tv and looking at her laptop.
